Control and Regulation of Asbestos in Schools and Academies

In the UK, asbestos is responsible for, and contributes to, over 5000 deaths every year. Prior to being banned, asbestos was widely used as a construction material within commercial and domestic buildings including schools. Failure to comply with the Control of Asbestos Regulations (2012) is a criminal offence therefore all educational settings must have a good working knowledge of the dangers asbestos presents and how to manage compliance with the regulations on site.

By building a sound working knowledge of statutory requirements, this course focuses on the practical aspects of asbestos management and how legal duties can be met without risk to health.

Our training is applicable to the following educational settings: Primary Schools, Primary Academies, Secondary Schools, Secondary Academies, Private Nurseries, Maintained Nurseries, Public Schools, Free Schools, Pupil Referral Units, and SEND Schools.

To fulfil the latest safeguarding requirements, training is advised for the following roles:

  • All existing staff involved in health & safety roles and site management
  • All new recruits in health and safety roles and site management as part of the induction process
  • Named governors/ trustees for health and safety
